Brief Report on Christmas Day Lunch & Party 2006
The Salvation Army & United Reformed Church could not have achieved this successful outcome alone. All preparations were surrounded by prayer. Tremendous support was received from many organisations & traders. Individuals from the community, some with church connections and some with none, offered practical help. The result was that a group of caring people came, worked together & have got to know each other.
Many have said that they look forward to doing the same next Christmas and the church would like to make this an annual event. Others don’t want to limit this service to the community to Christmas Day. What do you think? Would you be prepared to offer your services on a more regular basis? Please write or phone to let Roger & Joan know your views.
Finally Joan & Roger thank all who have made this Christmas so special & wish you God’s blessing for 2007.
All helpers are invited to a Christmas Day appraisal meeting in the church on Sunday 14th January at 7.30pm.
Financially, the day was also very successful. To feed so many, the church had to purchase a large amount of crockery & kitchen utensils. At the end of the day the deficit was only £290.67 which was amazing.
After 3 months of preparation Christmas Day finally arrived. Could the building & facilities cope with such a crowd? Had anything been forgotten? Would things go smoothly? Would the food be enough for the 75 people who had booked in?
Col. Joan and Rev Rog were sure that this celebration meal was what God wanted them to organise but they were ‘sore afraid’ nevertheless. Praise God, their fears were groundless!
85 guests & helpers arrived & left safely, the food was plentiful & well cooked, the afternoon entertainment was excellent & judging from the comments received a good time was had by all.
The CHRISTMAS DAY LUNCH went very well and 75 people sat down for a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings! We have had some very appreciative comments - even the Queen got a round of applause! It was a very happy day and everyone went home with a goody bag - including a sugar mouse!!
